One joy of being a parent that I never imagined despite having had studied children for so long is how instantaneously children gain new skills. One day they’re doing fairly simple things and sleeping horribly, then the next night they sleep crazy well and suddenly they’re capable of something you never even saw them attempt.
Cora slept fairly well last night. 2.5-3 hour stretches. Then once I moved her to our bed at almost 7 she fell back asleep until 8:30. We all got to sleep in!
I think I see why. She woke up with a whole lot of new skills.
She was lifting her basket (with toys) repeatedly as if weight lifting. She’d crawl to the couch and pull herself up from crawling (something she’s only either done with help or struggled to do before on her own) with little difficulty.
When I was sitting on the couch I’d hold her hand when she was standing by the couch she’d pull herself up and hang just by her hands and by leaning into the couch to try to get up to my lap (but the mean mom I am I wouldn’t pick her up immediately).
Then she started side stepping along the couch, my leg, and the coffee table effortlessly – something she’s never actually done before.
Today she goes swimming. I’m excited to see how she reacts, especially since she loves faucet water or bath time splashing.
